tWRF UPGRADED GREENING WEBSITE
Green Places Open Spaces
Green places open spaces, an initiative of the Willie Redhead Foundation is supported by the Global Environment Facility of the UN, seeks to promote a range of activities towards enhancing eco-friendliness in and around the city of St. George. The idea of “green places” for its part highlights conservation of vegetation, greenness, the natural environment and general values for greenness as an integral dimension of the urban environment. The idea of “open spaces” on the other hand highlights the need for free spaces as an essential part of human health and well-being and involve issues of access to and use of open spaces for free movement.
tWRF has now embarked on another means of interacting and dispersing information to its reading public via the use of the internet, on its website http://gposgrenada.org/. The display of greening in and around St. George’s via images, videos, maps, articles and photographs etc. are some of the key features that the website is expected to display. In addition there is an interacting forum that allows for blogging, where one can express his or her ideas, concerns or suggestions on Green Places Open Spaces, and others are free to respond to the information posted by a previous blogger or express their concerns or input to enhance our environment. With this friendly based website of Green Places Open Spaces (http://gposgrenada.org/), there are other features such as: one can be a member of the site by creating their own account “logging ID” (username and password). Secondly there is a poll area to know what one thinks “Do you think that more can and should be done to preserve the historic buildings in the town of St. George’s?”. This site creates a semi-forum of social networking, where users can communicate with one another on the Greening Project.
The main aim of the website is to reach every one who uses the internet so as to get an idea of what is taking place in and around St. George’s and to obtain more community participation in the enhancement of our environment. Some photos of good examples of greening in and around St. George’s by different orgainsations, and private citizens are also recognized and are displayed on the Green Places Open Spaces website (http://gposgrenada.org/). This is in order to show that we recognize that there are many citizens and organizations in our community who are concerned with enhancing our environment and are trying to ensure that it is eco-friendly. Another objective of this website (http://gposgrenada.org/) is to sensitize a wider audience and encourage them to be part of the eco-friendly drive of enhancing their communities.
The website is managed by the Willie Redhead Foundation and is an on-going process of uploading information and events as they occurs in the process of greening. The uploading of information as soon after an event takes place will make it more interesting for our internet friends to know what is the latest development on the project. We look forward to hearing from you.
